The Personal Ramblings of Samm Diep

live ~ laugh ~ love

On our most recent visit back to Charlotte, I took my “Charlotte Mom” to a glass-making class at Art in the Dairy. It was a new experience for the both of us.

There were so many glass pieces that I wasn’t sure at first what to design. But then, it became very clear to me. Duh!

We spent a couple hours there and it was a couple months before we got our baked pieces in the mail.

Definition of SPONTANEITY

(from Merriam-Webster)

noun \ˌspän-tə-ˈnē-ə-tē, -ˈnā-\

1: the quality or state of being spontaneous
2: voluntary or undetermined action or movement; also : its source
The theme for this post is significant because it truly encompasses the foundation of our happiness.
We dance when we feel like it.
We kiss when we feel like it.
And sometimes, we sing when we feel like it.

On June 25, Marc and I shared our Celebration of Love with our friends and family.

Sorry I’ve been such a stranger.

Five more days until our reception on June 25 and this planning thing is seriously kicking my butt! The whole intent of having it outdoors, in a park was to keep it fun & simple. Who knew that I’d have to rent tents and buy permits and all this other good stuff.

Let’s hope the forecast holds up.

Nothing completes a birthday like:

  • Returning to Body Pump after being gone for a month. Man, I was sore today!
  • Coming home to a world class birthday omelet by The Omelet Master himself.
  • Trying to ruin your own birthday, only to realize you have the perfect husband that won’t let that happen.
  • Discovering a yummy new Chinese restaurant.
  • A husband that’s not afraid to do Biore strips with you.
  • Watching Ben-Hur on VHS with your sweetheart.
  • Falling asleep in your true love’s arms.
I’m also incredibly grateful and honored for all the amazing birthday wishes I received from so many different people. Some were more creative than others. Here are just a few…

Some sent me personalized birthday greetings

Happy Birthday Samm!! I think people just try to win, so they can be interviewed by you.

Life is good. Birthdays are cool.

I’m making dinner for my mommy tonight and presenting her with these:

  • My homemade mommy-day card
  • Two groupons for a 55-min massage
  • $45 groupon to the Aveda Institute

This recipe was given to me by my friend and trainer Michelle. Of course, I made a few tweaks to give it my Cherry Bomb stamp of approval. I made a HUGE batch to take with us to this year’s Derby City Classic and my husband loved them! We practically lived off of them for 10 days straight.

  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1.5 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1/2 cup Shredded Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Dried Cherries (any dried fruit will also work)
  • 1/2 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1/2 cup Lite Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
  • 5 scoops of Cookies n’ Cream Protein Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Flax Seeds
  • 2 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 1.5 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Mix all the ingredients together (which can be a work out all in itself) and press everything into a bar pan or shallow dish. Refrigerate and cut into bars. I (well, my mom helps me) wrap each bar individually to store in the freezer.

These are SO yummy!

If you’re in a pinch or don’t have a way to keep your protein bars refrigerated, Pure Protein are my favorite store bought protein bars…

They come in 9 delish flavors though I’ve only seen 5 of them in stores.

I usually get the Chewy Chocolate Chip or the Chocolate Deluxe. Marc really likes the S’Mores.

They each have about 20 grams of protein, less than 5 grams of sugar, and roughly 200 calories.

You also get quite a bit of protein for your buck. They’re pretty reasonably priced at Target (under $6 for a box of 6).

I always keep a couple in my bag and pool case.
